Proofreading

Do you want to make sure your text is simply error-free in terms of spelling, grammar, and punctuation?  Then you need proofreading.
Proofreading comes after editing, layout, and design as the final check for typos and other minor errors before your text is published or printed.  If your text has already been edited and is ready to go to print, then this is the level of service for you.

Proofreading corrects typos and errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, and word usage:
  • Did you type form when you meant from?
  • Not sure whether to use it’s or its?  There, they’re, or their?  Loose or lose?
  • Unsure of when to use a semicolon or comma?
  • Need help with verb tenses or subject-verb agreement?
  • If requested, we can also check page numbers, heading and typeface styles, and compare the current text with the last version to ensure changes were made correctly.

A Note on Editing and Proofreading – What’s the difference?

Many people use these two words interchangeably, but there is a difference:
  • Editing, or copy editing, encompasses improving the sentence structure, style, and flow of your writing, as well as ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout your text.  It might include reorganizing or rewriting text. The Grammar Gnome offers two levels of editing:  basic and heavy.  Click here to decide which level is right for you.
  • Proofreading checks for mistakes in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.  Click here to decide if this is the right level of service for you.
